I told my husband when we agreed to buy our house, "Second baby, second story". And thats how this "story" goes.
We bought the ugliest house on the nicest block. I tell my friends, "I close my eyes while pulling into our garage". Seriously, its the ugliest house on the block.
It is a single story, mid-century rambler on a fabulous big lot on a prestigous street. At some point, this place was really swinging and I have a feeling it turned some heads when it was built. It was architect designed with heavy eaves and barely a roof pitch to speak of (which makes for a fun winter with the snow piling up....this place "doesnt belong" is an understatement). We are even as lucky to have glass block windows and a built-in Hamn radio...in case of cold war.
We hadn't even signed the purchase agreement and I had the blue prints in process. Our plan: to take this retro single story home to a two story, European inspired home fitting of its location.
I invite you to follow us on our journey, from conception to construction, as we create our dream home.
